At some point, you were taught that it’s not safe to live in the present moment, and you withdrew into your thoughts. You might be able to pinpoint a specific experience in your life  that caused this withdrawal, or you might not. It’s common to completely disregard childhood experiences as normal and even “happy, ”when in reality, you felt ignored, invisible, alone, or as if you were left to fend for yourself—like your needs did not seem to matter.
